PRS Guitars Brings Unique "Laps For Life" Event Back to Summit Point Raceway

(STEVENSVILLE, MD) June 1, 2009 — The Third Annual Laps For Life event will take place on June 20, 2009 at the NASA Hyperfest event at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia with all proceeds benefiting the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, one of only 40 cancer centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Paul Reed Smith Guitars and the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center have partnered for ten years in support of cancer patients and their families. PRS first teamed up with the Center through an annual golf tournament, auction, and concert in 2000. In 2005, the partnership expanded into the automotive world by sponsoring the annual Hyperfest event at Summit Point Raceway and offering an on-site guitar raffle. Two years later, PRS Guitars, NASA racing, and the 944 Cup race group began the most distinctive endeavor to date when the “Laps for Life” fundraising campaign was born.

Dave Derecola, National Director of the 944 Cup, remarked, "Both Johns Hopkins and PRS Guitars have long been associated with the best in what they do. The 944 Cup is honored to partner with these organizations in support of such a worthy cause in this race to find effective treatments for cancer. We hope the rest of the racing community will join us in this noble fight."

This unique event matches car enthusiasts and drivers to raise money for the Kimmel Cancer in Baltimore, Maryland. The race is typically comprised of 9-12 laps and the 944 Cup race group is one of the largest at the event. To add to the excitement this year, the on-site guitar raffle will feature a PRS SE Custom guitar custom-painted XXX and signed by XXX. The lucky winner will be announced at the evening concert featuring the popular local band, Coloring Lesson.

“It has been highly rewarding to match my passion for racing with my company in a way that benefits such a worthy cause,” says Jack Higginbotham, President of Paul Reed Smith Guitars. Jack not only spearheads this event each year…he is also one of the drivers!
